13. Heralding Bells & Horns

The thirteenth – an extra performance – ‘Heralding of Bells’ from the ‘Overtone Live Acoustic’ concert which took place in 2009 in St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church in Galway City. All Performances here https://www.ancientmusicireland.com/overtone-live-acoustic-concert The church tower contains ten bells connected to a hand-operated paddle system which operates the chiming of the bells. An hour before the concert permission was sought from the rector to sound the bells for a heralding. Dr. John Purserwas elected to play the paddles whilst bronze horns and trumpets accompanied the bells in the belfry above. The melodic bells pealed with brazen horns ringing out across the city from the oldest church in Galway (founded in 1320) calling the audience to the forthcoming event. This moment was captured on video by Simon Appleby.
